The Historic Gooding Hotel is the oldest building still standing in the city of Gooding. The original wooden section is circa 1889, and what is referred to as "the new part" was added in 1906. The purpose of the Hotel was to serve passengers of the Oregon Short Line Railroad, and, just like in "Gunsmoke", they would get off the train and get "a sleeping room". Over 100 years later, and with many stories to tell, the Hotel is a popular Bed & Breakfast. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1886 by an owner who saved it from being torn down. As innkeepers, Dean and Judee Gooding (he is a descendant of the town's founder) are caretakers of history. The welcoming exterior hints at the beautiful decor within. Ten unique guest rooms are furnished with antiques and cozy, quilt-covered beds. Several inviting sitting areas, both indoors and out make guests feel as if they are at "Grandma's house". Breakfast is an integral part of a guest's stay, consisting of house special entrees, fruit, coffee, tea and juice. Special dietary needs are taken into consideration.
The Historic Gooding Hotel Bed & Breakfast is family friendly. People from around the world, from all walks of life--from celebrities to deep-sea-divers--enjoy the tourism and recreation possibilities of Southern Idaho. Groups, retreats, reunions, special events, tea parties, weddings, get-aways, and so on, take advantage of the Hotel's size and hospitality, as do business travelers and families. Wireless internet and a no smoking environment are among amenities.
